Dear AiGS family,

Around 7:30 pm yesterday, Oct. 23rd, I got a news from Jeseph Sakwe (MDiv graduate of 2016) through the AiGS Kakaotalk group chatting room. We AiGS all members have been very frustrated with the unexpected sad news about the sudden death of our beloved brother James Buhari who graduated the M. Div. program from ACTS in February 2015, and was currently engaged with the Th. M. program this semester at Biblical Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, USA.

ACTS would sincerely express her deep sorrow to the bereaved family, relatives, and school and church friends.

According to BTS news, “James Buhari died suddenly in the early hours of Saturday, October 21. Friend and fellow student Eli Kerek had been unsuccessful in reaching him throughout the weekend. Eli came to James’ apartment at approximately 11:30 p.m. Sunday evening. Knowing that James had a life-threatening heart condition, Eli contacted the police after getting no response at James’ apartment. The police entered the apartment with Eli, and discovered James’ body. He was working on a paper, with the words “To God Be the Glory” scrolling on his computer screen. We suspect that he died as a result of his heart condition, though we have not received any official cause of death from the coroner.”

James, born August 15, 1980, is survived by his wife Debbie and newborn son Derek, both of whom live in Nigeria. His son was born September 7 of this year 2017, and James was hoping to see his wife and son (for the first time) over Christmas break. He is also survived by two older sisters who live in Nigeria.

As both ACTS faculty and AiGS classmates/roommates would remember, James was so talented person in many ways, particularly to make people joyful and considerate to stimulate the desire for the Gospel. We people of ACTS would have been mourning with James’s bereaved family and his friends in Philadelphia as well as in Nigeria. We’d ask you to especially pray for his wife Debbie and the newborn son Derek including all the process of funeral and other stuff left to make in order.
